The Manoa Falls Hike is one of Oahu’s top attractions, and even though it’s located a little ways away from the main hub of Waikiki, thousands of visitors to Oahu still have this popular waterfall hike on their Oahu bucket list.

Explore Lyon Arboretum…
Right by the trailhead for the Manoa Falls Hike is the entrance to Lyon Arboretum, one of the many botanical gardens on Oahu.
Officially the Harold L. Lyon Arboretum, the garden is managed by the University of Hawaii at Manoa. It is free to explore, although donations are suggested.
The arboretum is spread over almost 200 acres and contains thousands of varieties of trees, shrubs, and plants. You’ll find nice collections of cycads, palms, bromeliads, orchids, and gingers, amongst others.

There are several miles of trails in the arboretum, so visitors looking to explore the area is greater depth have lots of choices, including hiking to Vanilla Valley, where you can see vanilla orchids on trees.
Reservations are required to visit the Lyon Arboretum, and you have check in at the visitor center upon entry.
…And Hike to ‘Aihualama Falls!
One of the top trails at the Lyon Arboretum is the hike to ‘Aihualama Falls.
Located at the far end of the arboretum from the entrance, the ‘Aihualama Falls are best admired when it is flowing well after rains. In dry periods the flow can be negligible and even non-existent.
While not as impressive as Manoa Falls, the ‘Aihualama Falls is still worth visiting, especially as you get to see a variety of plants and trees along the route, along with enjoying nice views en route and back.
Look for birds as you walk, and if you have the time, explore the gardens on either side of the trail!
Take in the Views from the Tantalus Lookout
Particularly known as one of the top sunset-viewing spots in Oahu, the Tantalus Lookout is worth visiting any time of the day for spectacular views.
Not only do you get superb views over Waikiki and the Pacific Ocean, you also get incredible views of the Diamond Head Crater and the Koolau Mountains.
Of course, you’ll want to visit on a clear bright day to enjoy the views.
From Manoa Falls, the Tantalus Lookout is easy to access via Manoa Road and Round Top Drive. The drive up is also scenic!
Hike the ‘Ualaka’a Trail in Pu‘u ‘Ualaka‘a State Wayside Park
The ‘Ualaka‘a Trail is an easy and enjoyable trail in Pu‘u ‘Ualaka‘a State Wayside Park, where you will also find the Tantalus Lookout.
At a little over one mile round trip, the ‘Ualaka‘a Trail can be easily accommodated even on a short visit, and is a fun trail to do with kids.
There is more than one banyan arch along the route, similar to the one you see on the Manoa Falls Trail, along with other trees and shrubs. The ambience is tranquil under the tree canopy.
Look for fallen kukui nuts on the trail and the small white flowers on the kukui trees!
Note that the trail can be muddy after rains. Wear shoes with good grip.
The trailhead is located along Round Top Drive and is signposted.
Enjoy the Experience Nutridge Luau
The Nutridge Estate is located inside the Pu‘u ‘Ualaka‘a State Wayside Park and used to be the site of Hawaii’s first ever macadamia nut plantation.
Today it hosts an intimate backyard-style luau that discerning visitors will enjoy, with fewer participants (sometimes less than 50!) and a much more personal vibe than at larger productions.
The location on the hillside is peaceful, with beautiful views over Honolulu. The cuisine features Hawaiian favorites like kalua pork, pulehu chicken, and local fruit and vegetables. The show is authentic and entertaining.

Stop by the Mu Ryang Sa Korean Buddhist Temple
If you love the architecture and the tranquility of Buddhist temples, you’ll want to make the short drive from Manoa Falls to the Mu Ryang Sa Korean Buddhist Temple.
Located in the residential area of the Manoa Valley, the temple is also called the “Broken Ridge Temple” because of the visible break in the roof line.
You can meditate in the main hall, view the many works of Korean art, admire the stunning architecture, take in the gorgeous views, and stroll the lush grounds.
